University Ambassador Application 2019-2020

The FSU Visitor Center is searching for qualified students to serve as University Ambassadors starting in January 2020.

A division of the Office of Admissions & Records, the University Ambassadors are a dedicated group of students who play an integral role in the university’s recruitment efforts. Through a variety of programs, University Ambassadors assist prospective students throughout all aspects of their college search and application process.

They provide university and admissions related information, share personal experiences, and make connections that create a positive first impression of Florida State University. An Ambassador’s goal is to build relationships between students, their parents and the university community throughout each interaction to leave a lasting impression.

The University Ambassador position encompasses a variety of recruitment affiliated positions through the Office of Admission & Records. Applicants selected as Ambassadors will be trained to give general campus tours with additional opportunities to assist with phone center outreach, specialized tours, and more.


Academic Requirements

  • Must be a registered undergraduate degree-seeking student at FSU.
  • Have completed at least one semester at FSU by January 2020.
  • Have at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA upon hiring and remain in good academic standing while employed.

Our hiring process is unique in the fact that it spans 3 months in total and involves several dates, deadlines and a final audition. It is important that you know these dates BEFORE you begin to fill out this application to ensure that you will be able to fulfill every requirement.

Please make note of the following:

APPLICATIONS DUE: Sunday, September 29, 2019
The strength of your application, along with the needs of our staff will help determine who will be invited back for the group interview. Each applicant will receive an email response prior to the interview whether you have been selected to continue or not.

GROUP INTERVIEW: weeks of October 14 - 18, 2019 and October 21 - 25, 2019
On average, we invite 80 to 100 applicants to attend one of our group interviews.
(applicants invited to participate at this stage of the process will be required to only attend one of the group interview times)

SELECTION MEETING: week of November 18 - 22, 2019
Top candidates from the group interview stage will be invited to a selection meeting. At this meeting, we will discuss strategies for learning our campus tour script which the candidates will perform at the Debut Tour Audition, the final stage in the hiring process. (Specific date and time TBA.)

DEBUT TOUR AUDITION: Saturday, January 11, 2020
This final audition is an opportunity for final candidates to show us their public speaking skills. Applicants will be given a small portion of the tour script and asked to present this information as if they already have the job. The top presenters will be invited to join our 2020 Spring Training class. (Specific dates and times TBA)

FINAL HIRING MEETING: week of January 13, 2020
The first unofficial meeting of the Spring Training Class. This meeting will be an introduction to the training process. We will discuss job expectations and homework assignments to be done over the winter holidays. (Specific dates and times TBA)

MANDATORY TRAINING MEETINGS: Fridays, January 24 through March 13, 2020
All Ambassadors are required to attend a two hour meeting (3:00pm - 5:00pm) on Fridays during the training process. Please consider this when planning your spring 2020 class schedule.
